I really loved the first book in this series, A Distant Melody, and thought that I had placed the other two on my watch list. To my surprise, I got a notification that book 3, Blue Skies Tomorrow, had dropped within my price range. Unfortunately, somehow book 2, A Memory Between Us, had somehow been removed from my watch list or I didn't have it on there in the first place. To my dismay, the price had dropped on book 2 and I totally missed it. It's back on my list and I'm hoping it drops again.
Ray hasn't had it easy in the love department. He also has to fight against the common opinion of the neighborhood that he is a coward for working in America training pilots instead of going overseas and fighting with the heroes. Ray wants to avoid the war, he has always been a peacemaker.
Helen is a widow with a secret. When her husband died, Helen felt more relief than anguish. Playing the grieving widow isn't something that she wants to do, but she knows that the town needs to remember her husband as a hero. She is more worried about appearances than anything else and even though she wants to pursue a relationship with Ray, she shies away from him.
This book was more intense than the last one I read. There is a lot of hard issues that you need to get through. Spouse abuse and POW conditions were the main ones and they were hard to read at times. Just when you think that things are going to work out, something else happens to keep Helen and Ray apart. It was a frustrating read up until the end where everything gets all wrapped up.
Having skipped book 2 out of necessity, I have to admit that I can tell that I missed something by not reading them in order. I didn't remember a great deal about book 1, but when the series revolves around three brothers, and the brothers have a real presence in every book, you have the feeling you're coming in to the story having missed a vital part. For that reason, I recommend reading these in order. I'm hoping to get a hold of book 2 in the near future. My review of book 1 covers my obsession with the WWII aspects of the book, so I won't rehash them here. All I can say is that this author really does her homework and the part of the series I have read are well written and highly recommended. Great Book!
A little bit about what you'll find reviewed here
A little bit about what you'll find reviewed on this blog: I believe the best books involve characters you wish you could read more about long after the book is finished. Recently, I've been searching for hidden gems from the past. I read mostly fiction, and I'm a bit of a prude. I don't normally enjoy books with sex or excessive language.

Who I am:
I raised two wonderful girls, and I'm super proud of them. I enjoy reading (of course), sewing, cross stitching, photography and writing. I live in the high desert portion of Washington (which I didn't know existed until my husband and I decided to move here) and have really enjoyed my time out here. I am excited to see what God has next in store for my life!
