A little bit about what you'll find reviewed here

A little bit about what you'll find reviewed on this blog: I believe the best books involve characters you wish you could read more about long after the book is finished. Recently, I've been searching for hidden gems from the past. I read mostly fiction, and I'm a bit of a prude. I don't normally enjoy books with sex or excessive language.

Who I am:
I raised two wonderful girls, and I'm super proud of them. I enjoy reading (of course), sewing, cross stitching, photography and writing. I live in the high desert portion of Washington (which I didn't know existed until my husband and I decided to move here) and have really enjoyed my time out here. I am excited to see what God has next in store for my life!

Beautiful Bandit (Lone Star Legends #1) - Loree Lough

I picked this one up back in March and was in the mood for a good western romance.  It ended up reminding me of Leather and Lace, which I read not too long ago, but it had its differences as well.

A murder/robbery at the bank puts Kate on the run.  She wasn't part of the gang, but she feels guilty that she didn't stand up to the leader, Frank.  She thought he was a gentleman and was surprised to find out that he was a ruthless outlaw.  When she escapes from him, she is determined to make her way to Mexico, where the Texas Rangers won't be able to find her and hopefully Frank won't either.

Josh was at the bank and he saw the beautiful woman riding with the gang, but when he comes across a beaten, scared woman on his way back to his ranch, he doesn't make the connection.  He only sees someone that needs his help in a big way.  Even later on, when he suspects the truth, he doesn't believe that Kate could have been part of that horrible robbery.  He decides to wait for her to reveal the truth.

I thought it a little unrealistic that Josh would wait so long to find out the truth of Kate's identity, especially with the safety of his entire family on the line.  It wasn't such a major issue for me that it took away from my enjoyment of the book overall.  It was a good story and I really liked it!  Josh is a quiet sort, but has deep feelings he is afraid to voice.  Kate is a caring person that has overcome a lot in her past and is trying to build a new future.  I appreciated her journey back to God.

There are two more books in this series.  Maverick Heart is the second book in the series and is about Josh's cousin, Daniel.  We see a little bit of his history and who he is in this book.  The third book is Unbridled Hope and tells the story of Micah, another cousin.  We don't read too much about him in Beautiful Bandit.  I'm not sure if these books would need to be read in order.  Unless Josh and Kate are main characters in the following books, I think it might be okay to read them out of order, but I can't say for sure at this point.  I've added the other two books to my watch list and hope they'll drop!  Good Book!
